St Kilda Beach

It’s an ideal place for swimming, a leisurely stroll, kite surfing, or simply soaking up the sun. The calm waters make it a great spot for beginners to practice water sports.
Brighton Beach
Brighton Beach is another most famous beach in Melbourne and is well-known for its colorful and picturesque bathing boxes, which have become a symbol of Melbourne’s coastal charm. Located about 13.5 km from the CBD, it is a popular spot for swimmers, sunbathers, and paddleboarders. The beach also offers opportunities for windsurfing and fishing. You can also enjoy stunning views of Melbourne’s city skyline in the distance. The nearby cafes and restaurants make it a great place to spend a day by the sea.
Elwood Beach

Williamstown Beach
While beaches mentioned above are located on the southeastern side of the city, Williamstown Beach is located on the west side of the city. It is affectionately known as “Willy Beach” by locals and is a small but charming beach located close to the city. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and is a great spot for swimming and picnicking. The nearby reserves and botanic gardens provide barbecue and playground facilities, making it a popular destination for families.
It is about 13 km from the CBD.
Altona Beach
Altona Beach is another beach on the west side of the city. The beach is also popular for water-based recreational activities and equipped with boating and yachting facilities, a pier, barbecues, and playgrounds, making it a great spot for a day out.
It is about 15-16 km from the CBD.
Sorrento Back Beach
Situated along the Mornington Peninsula, Sorrento Back Beach is famous for its rugged beauty and powerful surf. While it’s slightly farther(about 102km) from Melbourne’s city center, it’s a favorite among adventurous beachgoers and surfers. Geelong Beach
Although Geelong beach is not in Melbourne but we have mentioned it here as it’s one of the best beaches in Victoria. It is nestled along the picturesque coastline of Victoria and offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, recreational activities and a sandy shores. Geelong Beach is perfect for a family day out. The Eastern Beach Reserve, located nearby, offers a range of facilities, including a children’s swimming pool, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
It is about 73 km away from the Melbourne CBD but it will be certainly worth the visit if you like exploring the new beach. You can drive there or you can take the Vline train from the Southern Cross station in Melbourne.
